Burnley Football Club is an English professional football club based in Burnley, Lancashire. The club currently competes in the Premier League, the top tier of English football.
The club was founded on 18 May 1882 by fourteen men who met at a local pub. The club has been based at Turf Moor since 1883 and has been a member of the English Football League since 1888.
Burnley won the FA Cup in 1914 and were runners-up in the competition in 1920. They reached the quarter-finals of the European Cup in 1960–61, but have not competed in European competition since.
The club has won the League Cup once, in 1973, and the Second Division twice, in 1920–21 and 1959–60. Burnley have also been runners-up in the First Division on three occasions, in 1919–20, 1959–60 and 1963–64.
Burnley are one of only four teams to have won all four professional English football trophies (the others being Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers).
The club's main rivals are Blackburn Rovers, with whom they contest the East Lancashire derby.
