Rotherham United Merchandise

Rotherham United Football Club is a professional football club based in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, England. The team competes in the Championship, the second tier of English football.

The club was founded in 1925 as a professional outfit and won the Third Division North title in 1936–37. After the war, the club was briefly relegated to the Fourth Division before gaining promotion back to the Third Division in 1950–51. Rotherham achieved their highest league finish of third in 1971–72 and again in 1979–80, and were promoted to the Second Division in 1980–81.

The club has spent the majority of its existence in the lower divisions of the English football league system. However, they have enjoyed several spells in the second tier, most recently a three-year stay between 2001 and 2004. The Millers also reached the semi-finals of the League Cup in 1996, which was their best run in the competition.

Rotherham United play their home games at New York Stadium, a 12,000-capacity all-seater stadium on the banks of the River Don in Rotherham town centre. The club have been based at the stadium since it opened in 2012. The club's main rivals are Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United and Barnsley.
