Coventry City Football Club is a professional football club based in Coventry, West Midlands, England. The club competes in League One, the third tier of the English football league system, following promotion via the playoffs from League Two in the 2017–18 season.
The club was founded in 1883 as Singers F.C., a works team of the Coventry Sewing Machine Company. The club joined the Midland League in 1898 and became a founding member of the Second Division of the Football League in 1900. In 1905, the club was elected to the Birmingham & District League and in 1913, they became founding members of the Third Division of the Football League. Coventry City won the FA Cup in 1987, which remains the club's only major trophy.
In recent years, the club has been plagued by financial problems and was almost forced out of the Football League altogether in 2013. The club was taken over by Otium Entertainment Group in 2016, and has since stabilised its financial position.
