Sutton United Football Club is an English football club based in the London Borough of Sutton, South London. The club currently competes in the National League, the fifth tier of English football. They are nicknamed "The U's", short for "The Underdogs".

The club was founded in 1898 and joined the Southern League in 1907. They were elected to the Football League in 1921, but only spent two seasons in the Third Division before being relegated back to the Southern League. They returned to the Football League in 1958 after winning the Southern League title, but were relegated back to the Southern League again in 1963.

The club won the Southern League title again in 1968 and were promoted to the Fourth Division. They spent four seasons in the Fourth Division before being relegated back to the Southern League in 1972. They returned to the Fourth Division in 1976, but were relegated back to the Southern League once again in 1982.

The club won the Southern League title for a third time in 1989 and were once again promoted to the Football League. They spent four seasons in the Third Division before being relegated back to the Conference in 1993. They returned to the Conference in 2002 after winning the Isthmian League title.

The club won the Conference title in 2006 and were promoted to the Football League Two. They spent four seasons in League Two before being relegated back to the Conference in 2010. They returned to the Conference Premier in 2014 after winning the Conference South title.
