Huddersfield Town Association Football Club is a professional football club in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England. The team plays in the Championship, the second tier of English football. Founded on 15 August 1908, it entered the Football League in 1910. The club has won three league titles (1924, 1925 and 1926), two FA Cups (1920 and 1922) and one League Cup (1972).

The first recorded game played by Huddersfield Town was on 8 October 1908, a 1–0 friendly defeat to Shipley. The result was reported by the Huddersfield Chronicle, which also printed the team line-ups. The first competitive match came on 17 October 1908, when Town lost 2–1 to Brighouse Town in the West Riding Cup. Their first appearance in the FA Cup was on 5 January 1909, when they lost 2–1 to Fulham.

In 1910, Huddersfield Town became the first team from Yorkshire to join the Football League, when they were elected to the Second Division. They subsequently won promotion to the First Division in 1912–13, where they remained until 1930. Huddersfield Town's first league title came in 1923–24, when they finished a point ahead of Manchester United.

The club reached the 1925 FA Cup Final, losing 1–0 to Cardiff City. The following season, they became the first English team to win three successive league titles, a feat only matched by three other teams. They also won the FA Cup in 1922, their second successive final appearance.

The club's decline began in the late 1920s, and they were relegated from the First Division in 1930. They returned to the top flight in 1932, but were again relegated in 1935. They won the Second Division title in 1941–42, but were not promoted due to the war.

After the war, Huddersfield Town struggled in the lower divisions, and were relegated to the Third Division in 1953. They were promoted back to the Second Division in 1955, but were once again relegated in 1960. They returned to the Second Division in 1963, and were promoted to the First Division in 1970.

Huddersfield Town's best season since World War II came in 1971–72, when they finished seventh in the First Division. They also won the League Cup that season, beating Manchester City 1–0 in the final.

The club was relegated to the Second Division in 1979, and to the Third Division in 1987. They were promoted back to the Second Division in 1995, but were relegated again in 1997.

In 2004, Huddersfield Town were relegated to the Football League One, the third tier of English football. They were promoted back to the Championship in 2012, and have been in that division since.
